The Core

Core stability and "working the core' are terms that are used constantly in movement and therapy settings. Yet there is a huge variation in what people mean and it's often hard to pin down what therapists or trainers are really saying. Is there really anything we can confidently point to as being the core, and if not what are we suggesting?

Where and what?

In this webinar we will break down the origin of the term, look at how it's used and more importantly what the effects are of this kind of terminology. We will look at some structures in the body that could be considered core like and think about how we might rephrase and rethink the mysterious concept of The Core!

The Core and Core Stability. Myth or Reality?

We often use terms and words within our industry that seem to have a wide acceptance and which we assume mean the same to everyone. Yet sometimes these terms can be difficult to pin down and define, with 'The Core' being one of the strangest.

It's a term that has been kicking around for many years and is now seemingly in common parlance in every studio, gym or sporting arena. Instructors run sessions on the core and athletes widely discuss the need for core strength and core stability as a key element to sporting function.

Yet the definition seems to change whenever a meaning is asked for, with the central question of what is it and where is it being as easy to grasp as smoke from a candle!

In this session we will try to boil down this simple term to find out what, the term really means, how it is used differently and interchangeably and whether there might be a more effective way of describing what we mean.

"To 'see' the soft tissue we as therapists think we influence is a privilege. Julian Baker makes all the right connections between the 'tissue' and considerations for therapeutic intervention. Functional Anatomy is a must for all 'hands on' therapists. It is also a must for the 'hands off' body of therapists! Seeing is believing.."
